Tent Rocks

in photography •  6 years ago

Here are some photos I took of so-called tent rocks near Santa Fe, NM. The tent rocks were formed by pyroclastic flows that that deposited soft volcanic ash and rocks during an eruption around 7 million years ago. Over the eons, erosion takes away the softer ash-based base and the stronger, harder cap rocks lay isolated on their perch.
