Taksim Republic Monument, Istanbul, Taksim Square. Two young Turks, built by Italian sculptor Pietro Canonica; With the help of Hadi (Bara) Bey and Sabiha (Bengütaş) Hanım, the monument was completed in 1928. The monument, which was opened on 8 August 1928, was built by Giulio Mongeri, architect of the pedestal and surroundings.
In 1925, a commission formed under the chairmanship of Istanbul deputy Şinasi Pasha was contacted by P. Canonica and the monument was ordered. Stone and bronze were used for the construction of the monument, which was built for 2.5 years. The monument, which weighed 84 tons, was brought to Istanbul from Rome by ship.
