Photo Lesson 1 - Motion, Part 1

in photolesson •  7 years ago

I got to play with capturing motion on some very fast and beautiful cars at this past weekend’s Toyota Grand Prix Long Beach 2018. I chose to stop the motion on this Bulgarian Sin R1. Pretty cool to be able to freeze an object going 75mph!

BUT . . . is that the best option in this situation? For all the viewer knows, this perfectly-in-focus car could be parked 🤔

That car was actually moving!!!!!?? Wow! Is it the speed of the camera that makes it look parked or do you have to move the camera too?

The shutter opens and closes at 1/2000 of a second. The human eye can see at a maximum of 1/200 of a second. Instead of capturing the subject in the blink of an eye, it’s ten times faster. Crazy, huh?? The fact that the cars were only a few feet from me makes it that much harder to literally stop all motion. But, is it worth all of the magic if it just looks parked?
