Travel Update: How did I get to Myanmar?

I have only posted some photos from past travels in the last few days, but in fact, I have been on the road again for almost a week - time for a travel update from Yangon, Myanmar!

I spent my birthday today exploring this amazing city. The best birthday present I could have wished for reached me one day early when I checked my emails yesterday and found a mail from @sndbox telling me that I was accepted into their new cohort that starts today! I am really grateful for this opportunity and am working on some posts about my recent travels. I still can't believe that within one week, I got from living in a small student apartment in Germany to seeing so many amazing places and ending up here in Myanmar - so how did I get here?

Copenhagen

When I was looking for flights to Asia, due to the peak holiday season all flights from Germany were heavily overpriced, even flights with a 12 hour layover didn't start below 380€. Luckily though, I found a cheap direct flight from Copenhagen to Bangkok with Norwegian for only 245€. Since on eBay they sell vouchers for any Europe-wide trip with the German bus line Flixbus for only 17€, I took the 16 hour bus to Copenhagen and enjoyed an afternoon in the city. I have already visited Copenhagen last year on my roadtrip from Norway to Germany, but back then, I could hardly take any photos since it was raining the whole time. With the current heat wave in Europe, I got lucky this time and was able to take my new Sigma 18-35 mm F1.8 lens for a walk around this beautiful city.

Two nights in Bangkok

On Sunday morning, I arrived in Bangkok and the same day, I had an awesome Steemit meet-up with @worldcapture and @travelling-two! We went to a night market and had a few beers and some really interesting conversations.
Sam aka @travelling-two has made a great video that you should check out where you can watch me capturing this shot:

My flight didn't make it...

No, just kidding, this is a photo I took at the airplane graveyard in Bangkok where I ended up the next day thanks to a combination of pure luck and a #travelfeed post about this place that I read a couple of months ago! Although I got there in the last light of the day, this place is a photographer's dream and I will make a separate post about it soon!

Arriving in Myanmar

Last night I arrived in Yangon and today I spent my birthday wandering the streets of Yangon and exploring the beautiful Shwedagon pagoda (top photo). So far, I totally love Myanmar and can't wait to see what this country will offer me in the next weeks!

Happy Birthday my dear myanmar is good place to celebrate it

For sure :) Thanks for your comment!

Hey, congrats, mate! Enjoy the country. How do you like the betel nut spit everywhere? Rotten teeth of locals? Delightful. Make sure to visit Bagan, too.

So that's what it is, explains the red colour as well! I'm probably heading to Bagan tomorrow to escape the monsoon here in Yangon!

Yep, at first I thought it was blood stains, but it's only that filth they chew.

Your pictures are lovely. Thanks for sharing

Thank you and welcome to sndbox to you as well!

Awesome pictures as always. I am so jealous right now. I want to go to Thailand SO BAD! I have been wanting to travel there for so long. Hopefully next summer I will be able to visit there and the Philippines.

Southeast Asia is amazing! Be sure to check out some of the less touristy places as well, staying mainly on the beaten track was my mistake when I went to Thailand last time, but the hidden spots are the ones that are really amazing!
