Life’s Not Always Beautiful | Uninspiring Photography Post

in photomag •  6 years ago  (edited)

I’ve felt really uninspired with my photography lately. Maybe it’s due to weather (nothing pretty about the same two colors everywhere), maybe it’s because it’s January and while my heart wants snow, it’s 60 degrees outside and too hot for even a scarf.

Or maybe it’s because I’ve been pushing myself to only use fully manual mode and I’m always unsatisfied with my inability to get the shot right, even if it looks right on the screen. noob photographer remember? Or that I’m bored with taking pictures of moss and leaves.. maybe I’m craving something more.

Whatever the reason, I hadn’t picked up my camera in over a week.. which is completely unheard of for me.

And well, I’m in a mood today.. not sad.. a mood. You know, the kind of mood that makes you want to take up kickboxing? Yeah that kind of mood. And while photography normally would fix this, it wasn’t helping.

I know you guys are used to a inspirational post from me, but I don’t have one today, not that I know of anyways...

But I also had a conversation with someone today about even though we try to be real here, we still only show as much as we want people to see... so, in the attempt to be real..I’m sharing my bad mood. You guys have those some days right?

So, bad mood and all I forced myself on an adventure, completely uninspired to take photos of stuff I had absolutely no interest in in the moment. I actually forced myself even more. I decided since I was in such a sour mood, I would go

Fully Manual AND Not Look At The Screen After A Shot.

Why?

I don’t know maybe I was punishing myself.. or maybe I was just forcing myself to be in the moment more and concentrate on the shot at hand.

I hated all of them while taking them.. the photography walk did absolutely nothing for my mood.. so weird, I know.

Then I threw them on my computer and before looking told myself I would only give myself 1 min to edit all shots (1 min total and yes I set a timer) and then post them all. Most didn’t even get an edit, and then I uploaded them here...

And guess what?

I Loved Every Single One Of Them...

Some days suck, sometimes we get in moods, sometimes life doesn’t always seem so beautiful.. but we keep going, pushing ourselves.. and when we look back on those moments, we see the beauty we were missing all along.

Much Love,

Justine

Great shots! I've been wanting to switch out my Canon 5D III for a Fuji as it is so much lighter and takes great shots.

Thank you Marky! 💕

Yeah I really love it so far. It’s light weight and has so many features that I honestly don’t even know how to use them all. I also think it captures a certain feel in the photos I can’t quite explain, but I really love. I’ve only had it a few months but I love this camera, and would recommend it to anyone.

Great blog @llfarms it's refreshing to have a glimps of your real & raw nature today. The shots are totally pro. I love them all too. It's a pleasure you took the time to share of yourself and your photography walk today. We all totally have those days. Now that i take a moment (not ready to give it more than a few seconds of thought) erre umm i think all last year was a moment. Grasping, trying, striving.... but all the same blah. It wasn't even cool enough to get artistic shots like the ones you achieved today! Wow. That's already more than a second of thought so i will stop now. Looking forward to getting to know you more. Hopefully, tomorrow's new moon will help shift your mood. 🌅✌🙏

Thank you! I really appreciate that.. I think sometime the raw and honest glimpse into a bit of someone head sometimes makes us all fit a bit more “normal”. I’ve had those times where the “bad mood” is really like a few months of just trying to survive, so yeah I totally get that. Photography has always been a bit of meditation to me. Something about going and trying to capture those some hidden moments of beauty that would normally go unnoticed seems to put things in perspective for me, or at least help me clear my head a bit. Thanks so much for the lovely comment and I look forward to getting to know you more as well!

The last shot is absolutely superb. I also think I see a ring sticking out of the mud in the water by Gollum's tracks.

Thank you so much! That one was one of my favorites too. LOL .. well, I mean.. who did you think I was searching for in the woods? He can keep the dang ring, I just want my hobbit hole already. 😜

Thanks for the love 💗

You could also go back up to outer space with your crew. Imagine the breathtaking photos you'd get up there.

P.S. Posted some metal drumming today for kickboxing ironically called "Winterache" of all things.

Hahahahahaahahhashahahhahaanhahahahaaha

Ah yes, those ere good times.. looks like I’m thinking about all the moss down on earth though 😜 thanks for the laughs and I’ll go find the drums!

It's all about the laughs.

Thanks so much for getting my drum video off the ground. You've earned one coupon redeemable for any* drum cover of your choice with no expiration. Reply any time and it'll be granted as long as there's an MP3 available.

*Offer excludes Nickelback.

Raccoon tracks... oh, you better be glad they let you out with that camera intact!

Loved them all. Great work!

Hahaha! So true, but those raccoons love me.. they know that I’m the keeper of all the cat food they consume 😜

Thanks so much!

1.4 Aperture... Dribble.

I spent much of early youth working in a camera shop. Long before digital SLRs were within reach of even the serious amateur.

There's nothing quite like a high aperture lens. I managed to forget my battery and charger in Asia, but once that's replaced I am hoping to capture the re-emergence of nature as winter lifts it's spell.

Some nice shots there. It's a challenge with photography these days as it's very easy to find great pictures online, so I have been trying to develop my own style, but as they say, first you need to learn all the rules before breaking them.

Completely agree, and I’m a total amateur.. just got a real camera a few months ago and have been learning slowly. I find I am very visual and am doing lots of learning through doing. The rules, I’m still learning those haha.. but I’m enjoying the process.

Thank you! And yes, there are some insanely exceptional photographers even right here on Steem.. I think just trying to express your own style and “mood” through your photos is all you can hope for, because trying to compare to some of the pros would just be pointless.

Thanks for the comment and I will keep an eye out for some of your photos!

Wow, how beautiful and expressive pictures! Yes, may be sad, but inspiring! I love them!

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ylich ☺️ I find those moody photos always seem to be my favorite.. a bit of emotion is always good. Thanks for the lovely comment!

Wow thanks so much Jeff!! I really appreciate that ❤️

Huh. Maybe you should get in a mood more often :) These are beautiful! Definitely my favorite collection of pictures you have taken. Some of them have maybe a bit of a dark and sombre feel to them but they are all drenched in beautiful :)

Hey thanks Carl! 🤗❤️

Yeah, apparently getting pissed off.. taking photos without previewing them or editing them really brings out my best work! 😂 I need to do it more often!

Honestly, thanks a lot.. I was really surprised by these and it turned out that photography was exactly what I needed after all. Thanks so much for the lovely comment and the love.. it’s really appreciated 💗

Smooth on top with ripples below, I like 😉💕

Inspirational for certain as bad days are remembered more that the better days which is unfortunate as we tend to give morr weight to the negaothat impact us. Great photography!

Very true, the bad always seems to stick out more in our brains.. but I think both help shape us into who we are. We just have to work on not focusing on the bad as much I guess. Thank you!

I like this one.. little murky on the top but that lovely green life is refusing to give up... its breaking through all the fog and reaching the sun ❤️

veri like thanks for it

Life is not always beautiful, but nature is always pretty, for me that is. Nice shots :D.

Totally agree.. nature is stunningly beautiful, even my crap mood was no match.. I just didn’t know it until seeing them 😉 Thank you ☺️ ❤️

Not inspirational, eh? :D

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

Full disclosure.. I did not know it would be inspirational when I started it, but I was hoping it would turn out as such 😉

My mood...

this one embodies a story for me .. my favorite type of pictures ;) .. I really need to get to some place with water , soul is asking for it. Lovely pictures Justine , very beautiful.

Thanks Pechi 😊

And yes, I agree.. I try to find “the story” behind every shot.. even if I’m the only one who sees the story, I want to tell it.. and let the audience then make their own story of it.

The creek is nice, I need to visit it more ❤️ Thank you!

Uninspired or not you captured your own moodiness through your vision to those details... I'm on a winter down mood, dunno, starting the year with low Energy, so I'm not much around (here or anywhere) though I keep on posting, just taking a bit of a break but not left. Trying to fix things (tidy up a messy environment, starting to exercise, finished pending paperwork, doing things I was afraid to check) Sigh.
