The Arizona Crater

This is the famous crater near Winslow, Arizona we visited in 2019

The crater is about 3,900 ft wide and 560 ft. deep.
It was created about 50,000 years ago by a nickel-iron meteorite about 160 ft. across.
The power of the impact is estimated at about 10,000,000 tons of TNT and the speed of impact has been estimated at between 45,000 mph and 29,000 mph.

Once we got there we went to the observation decks that look out over the crater. When you see it for the first time it is quite impressive. It is a huge hole and it must have been truly terrifying explosion!

Looking out from the observation deck. Unfortunately, I only had my 200mm lens with me and I couldn't take any wide angle views.

This is going down to the lower observation deck.

This is all that is left of the 160 ft. meteorite.

In the center they have a nice gift shop and a couple of different shows you can attend.

It was a lot of fun and would be a good stop for any family!
