A Cool Piece in Tudor City Greens

When I went for a walk recently to get shots for my Wednesday Walk post, I was in Tudor City, greens two little parks either side of 42nd Street and up some stairs. I came across this old fountain or bird watering thingy

What the heck is the correct name for this thing?

I thought it was quite a cool piece, this dry part of the gardens, with the aging and chips it looks like it has been there a very long time, The parks opened in 1987 and I would not be surprised if this was an original item in the gardens, but then again I have been terrible with guessing the age of things of recent so I could well be way off.

This shot is of the same thing from a different angle so you can see the little water that is in it had frozen into solid Ice, which kind of explains two things, firstly why my walk through the parks at this time of year are a lot quicker than my walks during the rest of the year, and secondly why I entitled this post a cool piece :)

A birdbath! We had a birdbath when I grew up which I just recently gave to my daughter when we moved to Florida. I love them, it's so fun to watch the birds gather and drink, bath and splash around. How Fun! Soon your walks will be a bit longer @tattoodjay! I know its tough to be patient :) Have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks so my guess was right, and a cool old one,
I would love to have space wherever we move to for a Birdbath and bird house/feeder in the yard, I to would love watching the birds visiting them

I am sure birds love to come for a bath there. It is still looking good after 31 years. It blends with nature perfectly.

Thank you for sharing it with us, my friend, have a great day. :)

When It warms up I will be visiting there again to see how popular it is with the birds, thanks for your visit ;)

My mom and dad have a birdbath really similar to that. They have it just outside their sliding glass door so they can watch the birds. Most of the time the birds just flap around in the dirt though.

OK cool, I am hoping when we move it will be to a place with a nice yard so I can it Ina birth bath and feeders

Definitely a nice birdbath very popular in the 1980's, still able to purchase in our nursery locally.

Have had these around the garden over the years, that one appears to be well made since it has lasted longer, ours birdbaths have been tipped over by monkeys and broken.

I am glad my guess was right, often I get it wrong LOL
from the 80s makes sense with the history of this park, and it has probably lasted well as they take real good care of this park

Our parks are no longer what they used to be, good to hear parks are being well looked after in your area.

In some areas here in the States Parks arent looked after but both in NYC and where I live they do take good care of them which I am glad about

Now that you know that it is a bird bath JJ, the idea is to carry a small packet of bird seeds in your pocket and to spray it once or twice a week at a spot near where you can sit.
Soon you will have many birds at the bird bath!
Blessings!

Thats a great idea I had never thought of that, I may try it this summer

will tide me over till we move and hopefully we have a yard where i can put up a bird feeder and bird bath

Great piece of art.
My mom had one of these and it was so great to see the birds splashing in the water in the summer months.
I should get one for my backyard, so thanks for the tip

that would be a cool addition for your backyard, birds in a bird bath are such fun to watch

Its a birdbath Nice photography.

Thanks I thought thats what it was but I wasn't 100% sure

I am just gonna repeat what everyone said! It's a birdbath.

But personally I think it's the potion of despair that Dumbeldoore drinks in Harry Potter

LOL I do like your way of thinking ;)

Likewise :)

Two other people already said birdbath so yeah thats what Ive always heard them called.

When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a giant mushroom :P

Yes it does have the shape of a mushroom I wonder if a mushroom was the inspiration of the first person that built one of these

A bird bath for sure, we have a couple in our garden and the birds just love it! Lovely photos @tattoodjay!

Thanks, if we have a yard where we move to my plan is for a birdbath and feeder lets hope I find a place with the space :)

I hope you do because I'm sure we'll then see some more bird photography from you. We've given up on bird feeders because the monkeys jump on it and break it so we just scatter seeds and fruit on the lawn. They love pecking in the grass. We had some beautiful bird feeders, was very frustrating! You won't have that problem though ;)

Posted using Partiko Android

Monkeys can be so cheeky and destructive but yes here they are nit a problem thankfully

Its really a cool piece and nice photography.

Thanks Kindly
have a good week ahead

Yep... a bird bath.

I have a beautiful blue one, but I love the old ones. There are so many different kinds.

Glad it was what I thought it was, I hope to get a place with a yard when we move next year so I can put in a bird feeder and bird bath would be cool to see the visiting birds

The ARE fun to watch.

Ohh yes indeed,

What do you think the object is for?

Many have said it is infact a birdbath so that what it is
