Picasso's Guernica stands as a prominent example of the Expressionist art style of the time. One defining factor of impressionism is its inherent subjectivism, its clean and bold lines and coloring and most of all its intense and of most of all its intense symbolism and allegory. Picasso's Guernica fits these crucial thematic characteristics and this essay will explore in what manner.

Firstly in terms of its lining and coloring. The art piece is steeped in drama as it very graphically expresses the human experience of loss and war all at one time. The faces of the people affected by a war, screaming in agony and war, instilled and emphasized by bold lines and strong poignant edges. Guernica is painted in a stark and monochromatic style that all goes to emphasize the gruesomeness of the artwork as not only a piece of art but also as an abrupt and powerful message. The sharpness, emphasizes the drama, emphasizes the tragedy and the devastation of the depth of this human experience. Expressionist to its core, the painting is sharp and refined with a contrasting scope of black and white and the greys in between, an expressionist artwork that captures the nature of expressionist work to a core. It is not defined by any standard of art but rather pushed by a core of drama intended to not exaggerate but rather artfully explode an artistic expression.

Secondly in terms of the stark symbolism and allegory. Picasso's Guernica even more than this steps into a very potential metaphorical landscape. Helped by the lack of clarity of the images seen in the painting makes the painting open to multiple interpretations. Originally Guernica was a piece of artwork done by Picasso as a reaction to the war that was occurring at the time. However, besides grief and agony painted into the piece, there are also non-human aspects to the piece. For example, the bull that is present in the painting lends itself to multiple interpretations and symbolism that is crucial to the Expressionist style.
In conclusion, it is clear that Picasso's Guernica is an example of Expressionist art. It is stylistic, undefined and dramatic in it style and even more symbolic in its expression, crucial characteristics of the Expressionist art form.
