My Benchmade mini Griptilian

This is my EDC knife. I have carried quite a few knives in my time: Victorinx swiss army cadet, kershaw shuffle 2 to name the most recent. I wanted to take the opportunity to review some of the things I can be found with on a daily basis to maybe help some others who are looking, but don't know what to get.

Tech specs:

This is designed to be an everyday workhorse. The tip up clip configuration is built to ride low in a pocket and the 154cm steel is the gold standard of carry knives. The edge retention is pretty good and I have had no trouble with corrosion. One of my favorite parts of this knife over any other knife I have carried is the axis lock this uses. It is quick to open, provides a solid lockup, and retracts just as fast which is really nice. No other company offers the same type of lock and this has to be my absolute favorite so far. I mean look at this:

The options:

There are many configuration options for this, from blade profile to grip color and material, you can change it all to your liking. IMO the sheepfoot is the best profile for the blade. To tanto and drop points are begging to be broken off at the tip and I don't want to risk it. Also serrations are basically useless, suck to sharpen, and take up valuable blade space so forget them. Also I opt for the thumbhole instead of a more standard spine mounted knurled stud because it takes up less width and you can open it more reliably.

The feel

It fills your hand well for a compact knife, but I have to say it could be a bit more narrow. The texturing on the grip is great, even with wet hands and the clip is reversible depending on which pocket you want to use.

The less-than-positives

The axis attracts unsightly pocket lint, the grip is slightly on the wide side, and the edge retention could be marginally improved. Minor criticisms, but they should be said. Also locktite your clip because it will loosen.

Review: 9/10 favorite knife yet, but nothing is perfect.
