Before we dive into this topic let’s know more about what Raspberry Pi. The Raspberry Pi is basically a computer which can do all the functions which a larger and expensive model of computer can do and the Raspberry Pi is open in nature which makes it so great compared to other computers models in the market. There are several projects boards from various different companies but Raspberry Pi Foundation provides everything which is needed to board to suit it to any applications available in the market. So there are several project kits available in the market that are functional and fun once built and we have got few of those use cases listed below in this article.

This means you can run pretty much any software that works on a Linux on a Pi too.

Annoying advertisements

We have many mechanisms to block annoying online advertisements. Popup blockers, ad-blockers like uBlock Origin, Decentraleyes etc are good examples. But even if we do all this, there is another attack vector - DNS !

Blocking advertisements using the DNS is what one can use in addition to all other means.

why use a local DNS ?

  • Because it is fast
  • ISP will not be able to SNIFF !
  • use DNS crypt and you are safe .....
  • use additional services like 1.1.1.1 with DNScrypt

Pi Hole

This is where Pi-Hole comes handy. This is nothing but a DNS server but well configured to suit on a Pi. You can run this on other hardware too but nothing is as handy as a rasberry pi.
