While Githeri media tells you that Cheap Chinese fish are being imported all the way from China, the real story is that illegal fishing activities have been occuring in the Kenyan marine [indian ocean] as well as Tanzania and Somalia.

On May 1 2017, Githeri media reported that a 3.6 billion ship had been bought by the state to protect its marine resources from illegal fishing. Illegal from who? A simple google search will show you coverage of Chinese vessels fishing in our waters not so long ago.

A recent expose, I don't know who pulled down the link, showed that the Chinese had developed huge ships that they used to fish on the ocean, process the fish, while still in the ocean, package and distribute from the ocean. This particular product of fish is cheap, not taxed by the tax jurisdiction where it is fished.

The government does not support local fishermen and has not invested in modern fishing infrastructure thereby deliberately creating a jackpot for the Chinese. This will in turn kill the local fishing industry.

A recent research shows that the Kenyan Indian Ocean can supply a sustainable 150,000 to 300,000 metric tonnes of fish every year. This could be our solution to food security as a nation. Why is the government not partaking this route if it is serious about securing the Kenyan right to food?

Is there a Cartel that systemically allows illegal fishing in our waters and then imports such fish as cheap supply?? I wouldn't be amazed if we realize there is a cartel of local politicians playing a con game to make billions off our idle resources!
