The Acquisition Wing of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Monday (August 31, 2020) signed a contract with Indian companies to supply 6 Pinaka Regiments to the Regiment of Artillery of the Indian Army for an estimated amount of Rs 2,580 crores.
Contract signed by M/s Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML), M/s Tata Power Company Ltd.
(TPCL) and M/s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and the production of these 6 Pinaka Regiments is scheduled to be completed by 2024.
The 6 Pinaka Regiments contain 114 explosives with Automated Gun Aiming & Positioning System (AGAPS) and 45 Command Post to be purchased from M/s TPCL and M/s L&T and 330 vehicles to be obtained from M/s BEML.

This will be implemented in the North and East Boundaries of India and will enhance the readiness of the Armed Forces.
This will also give added impetus to the Indian Government’s defense sector campaign.
The project under the category of Buy (Indian), with 70% indigenous content, was approved by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) is traditionally designed and developed by the DRDO and operated by the aforementioned defense industry.
This is a leading project that demonstrates public-private partnerships under the Indian Government (DRDO and MoD) program that makes "Aatmnirbhar bharat" operational through security technology.
