Being Late for Work Could Save My Life!

I live in New Jersey and commute to NYC every weekday to go to work. One thing that has often crossed my mind is that if a terrorist is going to attack a public transit system, the time to do it would be during rush hour, when everyone is going to or from work. If you have seen Port Authority during rush hour, then you know what I'm talking about. There are people EVERYWHERE! Trains are packed shoulder to shoulder some times. Packed buses are coming in and out of the station constantly. If a terrorist wanted to get a bunch of people during a regular work day, this would be the time.

This has sort of struck a little fear into me. Not enough to make a difference in my life. Just enough for me to think about it, then go about staring at my phone and forgetting I ever thought about it.

One of the things I like about being me is that I am constantly late for work. Why? Because I don't want to be there. I go to the gym before work, and I would much rather get in 15 more minutes of my workout than get to work on time. Maybe I need an attitude adjustment, or a priority check, but I like the way I am. I'm 32 years old and it has worked out for me so far.

Today, while being late, my bus (NJT) never seemed to want to come. I waiting 40 minutes for a bus that kept saying it was only 5 min away. Originally it was supposed to get there at 8:35.. then 8:40, then 9:00, then... well you get the picture, the time kept getting pushed back.

Then I found out why. There was a bombing at Port Authority. A small pipe bomb that went off prematurely, but it was still a bomb. Some terrorist was wanting to set this bomb off during rush hour for maximum casualties. That was the same scenario that I always thought about.

The first thing I thought was: "Thank god I'm always late."
