Pirates of Dark Water es un juego en 2D desarrollado para el sistema de entretenimiento Super Nintendo y el Sega Genesis de Sunsoft. Mientras que el juego Genesis es un tradicional juego de desplazamiento lateral con combate ligero, la versión SNES es más bien un peleador al estilo de Final Fight y Streets of Rage . El juego cuenta con el equipo principal del programa de televisión de los años 90, Ren, Ioz y Tula, en busca de Treasures of Rule para librar al mundo de Mer of the Dark Water y devolver a la tierra de Mer y Ren, Octopon, a su antigua gloria.
