R U Ready 2 PiTCH?
Looking for a platform to pitch your ideas? Look no further & click www.pitchborneo.com.
YES! We’re back and I’m back with more powerful training to refine your ideas and empower your pitches in a 2-day workshop.
Every year Sabah Techpreneur Association (SATA) organizes Pitchborneo with a new theme, and 2019 is Agrotech & Innovation edition.
If your idea is worth the RM20k funding to be won at the State Final yet at the same time you dare to fail, then this is the platform for you.
Pitchborneo Sipitang was the launch pad this year with 30 participants & 26 ideas pitched. Our event is limited to 30 participants only which includes 4 slots for team (2pax per team).
Top 5 ideas will be chosen to pitch at the final with a chance to win startup funding worth RM20k. Participants are given 5 minutes to pitch followed by 3 minutes Q&A from 3 judges.
Normally, we select Pitchborneo judges among those involved in entrepreneurship development. In Sipitang we had local women entrepreneurs Mdm Haslinda Hadis, a senior officer from FAMA Mr Muhammad Ruzainie and ICT expert from Kinabalu Coders Mr Edham Dawillah.
Food based ideas are favorite in Pitchborneo because Sabah is rich of undiscovered tastes. More than 11 food based ideas in Zone Sipitang and when it comes to taste, a sample is a must - judges love it. Fellow Steemian @danieldoughty had that wonderfully experience.
Locally made skincare products are trending too. The coral friendly sunblock seemed to interest the judges.
The launching of Pitchborneo2019 was graced on behalf of the Minister of Education & Innovation YB Datuk Dr. Yusof Yacob, by the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mdm. Moira David- a strong supporter of our idea for the past 9 years. SATA is very grateful to the ministry for the continuous assistance in providing the funding to run entrepreneurship development programs since 2010.
The Top5 ideas at Pitchborneo2019 Sipitang are:
- A-Tag (Adventure Tag) - Mazrie Mahat
- Keropok Sampang - Arfaizul
- Penternakan BSF- Gerald Wong
- BAYU Noni(coral friendly sunblock) - Michelle & Florence Chin
- ArniLog V1.0 - Dg. Arnilah Arsad
Another 25 ideas (Top5 from each district) will be selected from the remaining 5 district events.
We started with Sabah Got Ideas in 2011 and rebranded it to Pitchborneo in 2014. This is the 9th year I’ve been conducting training to create more entrepreneurs in Sabah North Borneo and we’ve seen fruits of our labour. About 1000 people have benefited from our training. There are 62 winners of RM20k funding and some have accumulated RM1 million revenue. One in particular was the Arnab Village by Mr Jubair from Ranau, who won in Pitchborneo2016 Tourism edition. Last year Arnab Village hit RM1 mil in sales.
There are many others, although did not win Pitchborneo funding, but continue to shine and won bigger funding from other agencies using the basic training & experiences they had in Pitchborneo. PB2014 finalist, Mr Patang Saharing, won RM500K from SUPERB and turned his wife’s clinic into a dental spa concept.
SGI2012 finalist, Asmawati Anifiah, pitched bigger idea from Innovative “krepek pisang” (banana chips) to Banana World integrated business and won RM300K in Rural Business Challenge(RBC) in 2014. She was also appointed the Grassroots Innovation Ambassador 2017/18 when Asmawati & team won Rm100k funding for R&D of banana trunk fibre into papers.
We want to create more entrepreneurs in Sabah and more success stories of startups. There are thousands of unemployed graduates out there. If you’re Tired Looking For Jobs, CREATE ONE! Ride the wave of entrepreneurship development through Pitchborneo.
