I don't subscribe to the "it's all Trump's fault" view of what happened in Pittsburgh. He didn't pull the trigger, Robert Bowers did.
However, Trump has helped to create a culture in which the acceptability of anti-Semitism (and racism, sexism and all the rest) is significantly greater than it was not so long ago. He's contributed to an environment in which anti-Semites feel much more free to say and do things that they would not have a decade ago. And conservative politicians and pundits who make excuses for Trump, or who downplay his hateful rhetoric, are complicit in that cultural shift. They didn't pull the trigger either, but they're part of the larger problem.
BUT... the exact same argument is true of those progressives/leftists who pal around with anti-Semites like Louis Farrakhan and who make excuses for, or downplay, his hateful rhetoric. People like Linda Sarsour can say all the "right things" about what happened on Saturday, but until THEY stop giving aid and comfort to the anti-Semites of the left, their words about Pittsburgh are just words. Nothing more. And they too will continue to be part of the larger problem.
The empowering of a culture of publicly acceptable anti-Semitism is happening on both sides, and until both conservatives and progressives start disassociating themselves with folks on their side who are responsible for the rhetoric that is shifting that level of acceptability, we Jews in America will continue to live in justifiable fear. And those on both the right and left who are providing aid and comfort to the sources of that anti-Semitism will continue to be part of the reason why.
sounds like whataboutism ...concern maybe valid but coupling it with the explanation of current situation.
