Pixel Art Series #1 - Secret Agent (1992, PC/DOS)steemCreated with Sketch.

Hello!

I'll be starting a series of stories that take a dive into pixel art, a style of art that is usually created through the use of special computer software, where images can be edited on a pixel scale. Early computers and video games systems from the 80's had limited graphics capabilities and through this constraint a new form or art called pixel art formed. My series will focus on different subjects, including mouse drawn art, pictures from old computer games, retro style art, demoscene and more.

Today we'll be looking at Secret Agent Man, which was a platformer computer game from the early 90's made by Apogee for PC's running Microsoft MS-DOS. It was characterized by sidescrolling action with simple graphics (by today's standards) that could reproduce only 16 colors drawn on a picture canvas of 320 pixels wide by 200 pixels high. This game had to reproduce its animated graphics on a computer screen that had less than 250 times resolution than that of today's smart phone cameras, and about a million times less colors!
