Aloes of South West Africa

The first day cover was released on 14 August 1981 in Windhoek.
It depicts the aloes that are found in South West Africa. The area is known for its rich variety of rare aloes.

On the 5cent stamp, the Aloe Erinacea is shown. This specific aloe only grows in areas south of Witputz up to the Orange river. Its flowering time is from May onwards to July.

Aloe Viridiflora is pictured on the 15cent stamp. In 1932 this spesies were found for the first time. It is mostly found west of Rehoboth. It has rare green flowers during September.

Aloe Pearsonii was named after Dr H Pearson who discovered it in 1910. This plant is depicted on the 20 cent stamp. It is found on the mountains south of Witputz and hve flowers that is red or yellow of color. These flowers appear during January and February.

The Aloe Littoralis is shown on the 25 cent stamp. This plant is found throughout South West Africa. It has beautiful pink flowers that appear in July.
