Full moon is approaching this week, GREAT time to get ur next batch of seedlings going.
For packaged (dry) seeds, i recommend 24hr soak in rainwater (reg water good too) before planting into soil or containers.
For wet (fresh) seed, sow immediately.
Today i will be sowing fresh tomato seeds using the 'slice-n-sow' method.
What u will need:
Container, soil, tomato, knife, (rain) water, and in dryer climes some type of humidity chamber such as an old soil bag to keep seeds from drying out.
Slice the tomato into about 1/2 in thick rounds and place them into a container 2/3s full of regular potting soil.
Cover with soil to just barely over the slices. Tomato seeds are small so covering them too deeply will decrease ur germination rates.
Water in well and set in a bright warm protected space. Tomato sprouts should come in within two weeks, ive had them come in as early as 8 days witha wet sow.
As stated above, for those of u in dryer climes (and no green house/humidity room) consider using an old bird seed or soil bag as a humidity chamber.
Im doing this in Tx, so we have puh-lenty of humidity for an outside sow.
I will continue this post to show seedling progress.
If you have a preferred method of starting seeds, please respond and let me know. Im always eager to hear of other ways of doing things. Collaboration is creativity's best friend!
