Save Your Seeds When Gardening Or Cooking Food

This shouldn't have to be said, but it's very important for people to save the seeds of the foods they like to eat. Even if you're not a gardener, you'll never know how bad the economy will get or if the place you live in will be safe enough.

I've been thinking a lot lately about surviving the apocalypse, providing food for your family during wars or natural disasters that could take months, years or decades to resolve. There is always something that you can do right now to prepare for the worse occasion. I'm not much of a "professional prepper", but I do like the idea of prepping. The most basic thing that you can do right now with the fresh produce you buy from the grocery store is saving your seeds.

If you're not purchasing fresh produce, then you should probably start. It's also going to be cheaper for you in the long run than purchasing prepackaged goods from the store. If you have certain spices that you like using, but they cost a pretty penny to get the dried spice in a container (like oregano, parsley, and other spiecs) then you know how pricey these things can be. Growing your own microgreens, or growing your own larger produce is certainly far more cost effective for you and you don't even need to purchase packaged seeds from a store either. If you don't mind sacrificing the knowledge of which variety you have, save your seeds for a rainy day, and perhaps even consider growing your food now instead of later.

There are lots of plants that can survive and produce seeds by replanting them, romaine lettuce is a good example. You also the option of using carrot tops, some kinds of broccoli, obviously potatoes. Things like spices may be a bit more difficult unless you're lucky enough to get a stalk (I'd recommend getting prepackaged seeds if you really want spices). You can never go wrong with buy fresh tomatoes and peppers and harvest those seeds after you slice your food up.

There are many options to extract seeds from the plant or from the fruit, definitely consider it when you're out cooking and buying groceries.
