Plucky Plumbago.

in plumbago •  7 years ago

Plumbago, or Leadwort as it is sometimes called, is a sprawling loose shrub which grows to around 6 feet tall, and as wide as 8 to 10 feet. it is very tough and hardy once established and can handle drought and is not fussy as to soil type. The Plumbago benefits from a good pruning occasionally to keep the growth compact. The plant flowers all throughout the year. Plumbago prefers a warm to temperate climate , but can be grown in cold climates if it is protected from frost and ice, as you would expect from a plant that is Native to South Africa. The two common colours of flowers are Blue and White. I snapped these photos locally, in you - know -where.new 2 027.JPGnew 2 028.JPG

Plumbago flowers are really captivating. They are really looking very attractive and heart warming. I am amazed to see your love for the beautiful plants.

In my part of world it is commonly known as jasmine. It has different varieties such as common jasmine, showy jasmine, arabic jasmine, winter jasmine and many others.

Common poet's jasmine is the national flower of my country; Pakistan. Its intense fragrance is too cool to express in proper words. During my childhood it was a normal practice for me to pluck the flowers in my school where couple of plants were grown.

I loved the fragrance you conveyed through this wonderful blog which renewed memories of young silly days.

Congrats, you take the Silly Sausage ! I know a few Paki's here, and they love their Cricket, like us ! Thanks for your comment.

You are right we love cricket and almost everyone here is inspired by Australian team. We wish to want our players to play like the Ausies do. Thank you:)

Scientific name Plumbago from the family Plumbaginaceae comes from the plumbum, meaning Latin bullet. It was thought to be good for lead poisoning. The motherland is south of Cape region in South Africa and east.69DE718D-C7E4-4ECF-B23D-5BC9C32D1CE7.jpeg

Blue jasmine develops as medium bush. It can be up to 3m long. Branches can not stand upright. The envelope has no gripping properties. It rises on the basis of places. Branches are susceptible to freezing cold. Because of this, the elderly branches often leave their young branches in place. This is not a problem because of the rapid development. It is fully compatible with the Mediterranean climate. In places where summer temperatures are too strong, noon or nearer sun develops in places where the sun does not. In other places the full day sun will not hurt at all. It can dry completely over the ground in frosts more severe than -4C in winter. The bottom of the earth rises to -12 ° C and begins to re-branch rapidly in the spring. If the lambs in winter do not see much damage, they will start to bloom early in the winter.
B920EED8-391B-448F-95C7-CBD472FBCA43.jpeg

If you stand in the garden, you do not choose soil. It even develops smoothly even on heavy clay soil. If you are going to grow in the pot, it is better to mix natural land (humus black soil) and some gear sand. Apparently the blue jasmine loves cool earth. The ready-made sachet soil is not suitable for hot countries. In the winter, the roots can not protect from the cold. Leaf creams or chestnut fertilizer are very good as fertilizer.

The arid summer is suitable for the regions that live in, but it is still watery between spring and autumn. Flowering on this count will be continuous.

Reproduction: The blue jasmine is radically separated and separated by the separation of the strong ones from the bottom shoots. It has the property of proliferation by developing continuous shoots under the soil. You can duplicate them at the end of winter. In the summer months, newly completed mature branches can be rooted in the gear sand. It can also be propagated with seed. Seeds should be planted at the beginning of spring. It should not be too late (blue jasmine seeds may not germinate in hotter temperatures).

Great comment, enhances my post, thanks !

Its blue shade is much more beautiful than the white one.

Lightly grew well in sandy and deep soil. Your soil must be moist. In the winter, the humidity of the soil is slightly reduced. If you grow jasmine flowers in the pot, you can change the pot in the spring, if needed.
These plants like cool places. The temperature at which they are in winter should not exceed 10 degrees. Winter heat in hot environments can cause the leaves to be bitten. The jasmine flower that passes the winter in warm environments does not bloom.
Jasmine is a plant that loves water. Especially in the summer months it is necessary to water frequently. During frequent periods of irrigation, nutrients can be mixed into the juice of water every two weeks. There is no need for frequent watering in winter. It is enough that the soil is moist.

It's also on my mother's balcony. There is a really beautiful image. @ctrl-alt-nwo

Nice comment !

Is it name Plumbago?. Here is the name Blue Jasmine. I have it too. I'm looking at my balcony. The next step is on the balk where there is no place to go.
Last year was a tiny dive in the tin, I took a pot in this spring. The branches of the summer have grown rapidly, the first party flowers have been turned over, giving back. I'm going to prune your branches to be lush, but I think it's not time, it's giving you exiles from the ends.
The cinnamon is cutting off the flowers, but still flowers. My dog's name is Cinnamon.

I traveled 2 years ago. I went to the big island of Istanbul. There was a house I saw. The entrance door is completely surrounded by Blue Yasemin. I took the picture. It took me a while to find the picture again. :))) @ctrl-alt-nwo

Great comment !

Perfect information giving about plumbago plant. Very beautiful plants growth up bunches. It will grow as an evergreen shrub and makes an excellent foundation plant. It is a beautiful when planted over a stone or wood retaining wall, allowing its branches to cascade over in a waterfall of foliage and unusual blue flowers and it will bloom all year long. Because of its pest and disease resistance, how to care for a plumbago is pretty basic. It blooms best in full sun, but will tolerate some shade if you are willing to sacrifice some of the bloom. As with most plants, it prefers fertile, well-drained soil, but again, it isn’t fussy. Slightly acidic, slightly alkaline, clay, sand or loam where to grow a plumbago in your zone is really a matter of where to dig the hole!

As i am a student of Cultural Studies so, to know different cultures specifically Botanical aspects of that culture is my utmost hobby and interest. Plumbago is commonly known as (Kala Seesa/کالا سیسا) in my native language that blooms repeatedly in Summer. It's propagation happens though seeds, dividing the rootball and from semi-hardwood cuttings.

Plumbago is an extremely reliable, resilient plant which has been popular for home gardens as well as for commercial landscapes for many years. This evergreen shrub, native to South Africa, has long, skinny stems and phlox-like pale blue flowers. It can be used as a shrub, climber, pot plant, or groundcover. Plumbago may be found in gardens all over the world. Plumbago is propagated easily from seed, cuttings and suckers.Plumbago is used traditionally to treat warts, broken bones and wounds. It is taken as a snuff for headaches and as an emetic to dispel bad dreams.

Once again thanks a lot the beautiful Soul for showing the world a wonderful side of the life @ctrl-alt-nwo <3

It's our "piggy" we grow her houses in pots, because she will not survive the winter. I really love this plant, it can bloom all 4 seasons. In the reference book of Martin Haberer, "Atlas of indoor plants" (2004) met mention of another species - Indian pigs with red inflorescences. This plant is more suitable for greenhouses and greenhouses. In addition, it is quite rare.

Plumbago is an attractive summer and fall flowering groundcover which is often called leadwort. The common name plumbgo comes from a Latin word meaning "looks like lead". The name has variously thought to have been derived from the resemblance of the flowers to the color of lead. It is actually a shrub that can grow to 10 feet high and 10 feet wide if left unchecked. Plumbago can be easily grown from seed, semi-ripe tip cuttings or by the far the easiast way, is to take rooted off shoots from the parent plant.

With a little care it will bring you joy year after year with its beautiful sky blue flowers and happy disposition. Can be grown in cintainers, against trellises, over rocky ground, in fact anywhere you have the space.
Cape leadworts are largely disease and insect resistant.

As well as various shades of blue, there is a white version of plumbgo auriculata available. This flower is especially beautiful in twilight as it appears to glow in the half-dark.
Plumbgo attracts wildlife to your garden in the form of birds and butterflies who are attracted to the sticky sweet necter on its flowers. Children sometimes take individuals flowers and used them as earrings.

Good comment, thanks !

wow, nice photo very beautiful and charming flower what is one tree there are two kinds of flower color

Blue is my favorite colour.I like blue flowers.

Plumbago (plum-BAY-go). It’s an easy name to remember because it rhymes with “lumbago,” a word for lower back pain. And pruning a year’s worth of plumbago growth, plus hauling it away, is guaranteed to give you an ache in your lumbar region.0496f0d74d23629103cb33f43ded8d4f--blue-garden-summer-garden.jpgPlumbago (Plumbago auriculata) is a fast-growing plant with unmistakable baby blue flowers that are quite sticky and cling to you when you prune it. You may have seen it growing on freeway shoulders and embankments, or here and there in the Los Angeles area as a naturally unkempt, freely ranging specimen. You could call it a medium hedge or tall ground cover, depending on whether you prune it or notDQmUKsQFpMgauLJd3RKBKfbiqHFwqtG35u8XPLyfJVQaRnc_1680x8400.jpegSome people call it cape leadwort because it comes from the South African cape and has the color of freshly mined lead. You might remember from high school that lead appears on the periodic table and is a naturally occurring mineral which, when it is first removed from the earth, has a lustrous silvery blue shine. Wort is the old English word for root and, by association, plant, so leadwort means “plant with blue flowers.”() Thanks for sharing and keep us entertaining
