My Analysis of 'Test, Test' by @timsaidsteemCreated with Sketch.

in poem-interpretation •  8 years ago  (edited)

Today @timsaid published the poem 'Test, Test' on Steemit.
This is the shortest piece by this author, so far.
It is a beautiful example of post-modern minimalism and has to be seen as critique on our society.
With it's remarkable simplicity, it recieved an astonishing count of 79 votes within only two hours.
The combined Voting Power sums up to a value of almost one US Dollar.

I hope, I don't get in trouble with cheetah for this.

Let me begin my quick analysis with the interesting epizeuxis 'test, test';
I think it emphasizes the experimentality of this work.
It is to note, that in the original publication, the author chose the title 'short poem #1', but he then quickly changed it to 'Test'.
I think this shows how undecided, almost hesitant the author was.
He tries to get the readers attention, but can't convince himself to be more assertive.
He then concluded with a poetic, single line; It consists of three seperate sentences:

Please don't vote.

Even though it looks like an imperative, or an exclamation, it ends on a full stop.
It might look like a plump attempt at reverse psychology, but i believe there is much more to it.
'Test, Test - Please don't vote.'
I think the author tries to express his stress and his fear to disappoint his readers.
'Please don't vote.'
The burden of responsibility lies heavy on his shoulders.

I accidentally clicked the post button.

This is obviously to show, how the author struggles with his confidence.
His quick rise to fame surprises him and he doesn't feel entitled, or worthy enough.
He tries to deny his own work and describes it as an 'accident'; a matter of chance or luck.

Thank you

With this he tries to show his gratitude. I'm not sure who he is adressing.
Maybe this is also meant to reflect back at his initial 'Please don't vote'.

As a conclusion: I think the author wants to thank his readers.

Please don't vote. [...] Thank you

I would like to add:

if you upvote anyways

I believe, @timsaid wants to thank us all and this beautiful poem was his humble attempt to show us his soft, poetic side.

Funny analysis! I left your link as a comment to timsaid.

Thank you.
I hope he likes it - It was my first interpretation of an english poem, ever.

:D

Fantastic interpretation of my work. Indeed this was more than just a short poem. It put much work and any thought into it. It was an experiment to prove that astronauts can be creative in space.

Thank you for your team

I think we all enjoyed your poetry.
I am also looking forward to your upcoming and usually more elaborate and informative posts in the science category.
But this was a nice way of showing us your soft, human side - from inside the spacesuit.

Thank you

Nice interpretation ;)
