Light

in poem •  5 years ago

Little butterflies
and black moths
Sipping at the light
A light that dims
A light that radiates a heat
Energy being used up

But we bugs
We beg for the light
Not worthy we sing
Just bathing in it
Even if it is dangerous
Even if it will burn us

We flick our wings this way
that way
to seduce the light
To give it back some of the warmth
We want to dance for it's warmth
We want to flutter to its side
We want to rest on it's heat
Even if it kills us
We still persist
We still bash our heads against it
Every night we dance for it
Every night praying the light might love us back
Love us for our beauty
Love us for our consistent dance
Our consistent adoration

But the butterfly will never know
Just like the light will never know
love

But they both shall know warmth
and they both will speak to each-other in the night
Maybe that is enough for the moth
Maybe that is enough for these winged things in the dark
I do not know if it is enough for the light
For it is dimming
