IN SEARCH OF VANITY
Vanity and I met
And made love
The night
I divorced prosperity

Every dinner
Vanity would
Serve me maggots
In gold plates

She’d pass every night
With me
Lay my hug-infested bed
With scented linen

She’d seduce me
With moonlight tales
Of her conquests
Before me

But when I was dying
She fostered me
And made me cling to life
Vanity banished my loneliness
So of her suitors
I hosted her
The longest
Vanity loves me for it

My leaf
Has struck to soap
Long enough
To be happy
My lamb
Has frolicked with dogs
So much
It likes dung

I like the way
Vanity makes my bed
And her maggots are better
Than pasta

You must all
Meet
My next of kin
Her name is Vanity

But I woke up today
And Vanity was not there!
I didn’t see the linen
Nor the gold plates

Yet Vanity must
Truly love me
She left in a note
Her new address

Come get me
If you really
Want me’
Was her closing line

I have packed my bag
Today
I find my spouse

I’m leaving behind
My head and mind
Vanity hates them
And will replace them

Vanity
Sweet Vanity
I know where
To fine you

Tonight
I bring you back home
To be mine alone
And ever more.
