If I Could Keep You Like A Pressed Flower & Error Of days

An original Poem, later a song, directly inspired by a piece by a now friend of mine James Michael Starr titled 'If I Could Keep You Like A Pressed Flower,' which I wanted to buy at a gallery.

At the time I didn't have the money for the piece, I was real young. I talked to my family and hoped to pool the money to get it. It was sold when I got back to the gallery. I went home and started writing the poem (it was really only a poem for about five minutes) bellow which turned into a song. (I'll attach song at the bottom)

I didn't know Jim back then at that first gallery showing, it was nearly 15 years later when we got to know each other and he heard the song inspired by his piece. He actually went the day of a show that I was performing the song for the first time, and bought back the piece from the original buyer (actually traded another pice for it) and presented it to me at my show. It's a long story told in part on his site Post 1 Post 2. But I was just looking at Jim's 'pressed flower,' on my mantle noticing it has come loose from the frame, and thought of this today.
It still is the most special thing I own.

Error Of Days (Pressed Flower)

the song inspired by Jim's Piece

If i could keep you here like a pressed flower
with poems and dreams
songs unsung
and to hold would heal me every hour
like potion stings on my tongue

and a smile would pay for all of my shames
with laughter of fools
falling in love
the first time again

for the days i feared and held like the rain
finding a seem
broken between
fall in the drain

If i could keep you here like a pressed flower
on darkest days
moon nor sun
in a box of years i would devour
in lonely ways, made for one

in a book unnamed and hidden in chains
far from the cruel sun that will fuel, the error of days
In a box of things broken and stray
there you would go
between the fold
never to fade

The Recorded Song; 'Error of Days.' from 'a retrospective. I also am about to release a live version of pressed flower-error of days on election day.

If I could keep you like a pressed flower, falling from the pins that hold it. Just like i'm falling from the pins that hold me ;) Time for a repair.
