Oklahoma

in poem •  8 years ago

Green glass grass crackled in the giant August sun
Streets bone bleached
Town floating island in a sea of dead ranches
We walked as far as we could on Sundays
But could never leave it behind
Picking our cities, apartments, friends and furniture
Dreams building the world around us
I wandered long from yellow Oklahoma dust
Never forgot that summer smile and the sunny dreams
You planted in my heart
