The Forest - A Poem

in poem •  7 years ago

In the dark of the night,
lost in a forest of lies.

Every step I take sinks me deeper
into the madness and confusion.

In search of that bright white light
to wash me clean, to wash me away.

But I am up to my neck
in this filth and debauchery,
and I fear that there isn't a light bright enough
to cleanse me, to destroy myself.

There is no one here,
I am surrounded by people.

I wish I could fly away,
away from my imminent doom.

But my wings are burnt
cut, reduced to dust,
scars on my back.

It won't be long until I succumb,
it won't be long until this forest swallows all
one by one all will falter,
and I will be the first one to fall.
