Consequences

in poem •  7 years ago

The past burned up with me alive in it
The tears nowadays don't wash away regret
The story told gets tweaked and smoothed
Can't tell them the truth lest I'll be found out
Don't feel good about it
Don't feel proud about it
I'll just hide in a shell that I made for myself
While I barricade in a space
Where my feet stay on the ground
Wish I could take it away
Wish I could put out that fire
I spend so much time wishing
But unlike wishes
What I really have
Is a plate full of consequences
That can't be taken back
