poem - "Don't be surprised"

in poem •  7 years ago

Lets give them a world they'd be happy to be a part of, not this fake plastic two faced tyrannical excuse for a liberated open democratic society, full of lies and double binds, hypocrisy and abject poverty, in the face of stark inequality. No wonder they're popping pills and popping each other, then throwing themselves off towers. Never mind the dystopian future, its here now. Just scratch the surface, its rotten to the core. Don't be surprised when it fall apart in your hands, it was only held together with lies. There's a thin thread of hope we're clinging to, it's stretched so tight it's barely visible, and it's the hope that it's all going to be okay. That somehow out of the failing wretched abomination we're going to finally walk out into the glorious sunshine like phoenixes rising from the fire... but this is madness ! This hope keeps us holding on to the edge of a runaway train heading faster and faster towards the edge of a bottomless abyss. It's time to let go and jump... There might be a better way, but first we have to let go of the lie, the facade is too dilapidated, no amount of paint is going to cover the gaping cracks, pull it down. Lets stand in the empty field together, acknowledge the failure, acknowledge the stark empty abyss before us, and start building something new ...
