Writers block - or life getting in the way?

in poem •  7 years ago

Hi awesome steemit people,

Writing is my passion - so here is a poem i wrote many moons ago - if i get some good feedback ill post more. Feel free to let me know what you didn't like - a wise man once said the only way to get better at chess was to play a vastly stronger opponent, lose and hope some of that rubs off on you ;)

The context of this particular poem was inspired when my mother was diagnosed with a cancerous lesion on her upper mouth. At the time, the worst case scenario was that the surgeon would remove a large portion of her mouth. The post operative result was amazing and this never occurred.

This is the poem i wrote to her in hospital when she was naturally freaking the f**k out.

Vanity

The face can always betray what lies beneath

We often fail to realize whom we are

The light of frigid darkness bequeathed

Can blind the beauty of a wavering star

Misplaced vanity is hard to shed

Eyes of the beholder may bend the truth

To be misjudged is what we dread

So look inside to see the proof

What separates strangers from those held dear

Is plain in the love for one another

Like the sun's solace burning bright, clear

To the unconditional love of a son for his mother
