Harder eyes but softer touch
You still radiated that electricity
That always captivated me
The same certainty and arrogance
That somehow became elegance
You had maintained that gravity
That made talking to you so easy
The rage, the fury, still ran in your blood
You still drew the line where you should
You still had that same steely self control
Until you snapped and let the fire flow
Your confidence and tenacity
Still bordered on audacity
Your passion only served to exacerbate
What most called your worst traits
I really can’t agree because if that’s true
I liked the very worst of you
This is one I have had for a while now, I just woke up one morning and wrote it, I was a bit worried about sharing it, I feel like a lot of my poetry is pretty low-bar but it's all practise. I am often inspired by friends, so this is about a guy I worked with for a while. He was very well read, and sure of his opinion, he was always one to set others right with a scoff. He had a bristling temper, and his self restraint was visible, very rarely, someone would push him that bit too far, and he'd entirely snap. He was intelligent enough to destroy someone without lifting a finger. I'm not sure why this made me want to be his friend, but it did.

lol oh you are totally right, the more I think about it, the harder it is to define. You know when people have it, but trying to say exactly what it is is much trickier!

I wish people had meetings for new words, I have a hilarious image of a group of people doing impressions of their idea of elegant, arguing over what it should really mean!
