In Peace

in poem •  7 years ago

His eyes met mine as I whispered,
"Why do you have to go?
I've made you mine and enjoyed your time,
more than you will ever know."

He turned his body, glancing
at my rapid tears tumbling down,
"You know I'll always be with you,
Please do not cry and do not frown

For the good Lord takes us all,
whether we be mice or men,
But we need to remain grateful,
When we are near the end.

For we've had memories and we've had love,
and it is clear to see,
that if death managed to tear us apart,
You would find me easily.

You would find me in the shadows,
in the bristling of the grass,
You would find me in your memories,
for eternity they last.

So, my love, be quiet.
Lay your hand upon my chest,
Please just kiss me one last time,
And, in peace, I'll rest."
