IN THE BAZAARS OF HYDERABAD (Best Poem)

in poem •  2 years ago

What do you sell O ye vendors ?
Lavishly your products are shown.
Turbans of red and silver,
Tunics of purple brocade,
Mirrors with boards of golden,
Blades with handles of jade.

What do you gauge, O ye merchants?
Saffron and lentil and rice.
What do you crush, O ye ladies?
Sandalwood, henna, and zest.
What do you call , O ye pedlars?
Chessmen and ivory dice.

What do you make, O ye goldsmiths?
Wristlet and anklet and ring,
Ringers for the feet of blue pigeons
Fragile as a mythical serpent fly's wing,
Supports of gold for artists,
Sheaths of gold for the lord.

What do you cry, O ye fruitmen?
Citron, pomegranate, and plum.
What do you play ,O performers?
Cithar, sarangi and drum.
what do you recite, O performers?
Spells for ages to come.

What do you weave, O ye bloom young ladies
With tufts of purplish blue and red?
Crowns for the temple of a groom,
Chaplets to festoon his bed.
Sheets of white blooms new-collected
To fragrance the rest of the dead.
