Soak

The February nights force
their cruel winds down
on our sleeping,
and how the stars of the Renaissance glow,
Who put night on the earth for you?
And so quick to rebel in light years,
of all the empty space, gone and
left without a trace.

I walked between the violets of you,
over empty fields at Ashdown,
while the night fires grew dim,
the bee is a
creature of immense beauty,
but through the skin,
the blood rushes
and the words soak in,
An empire is mighty,
but only specks in the milky Way.

A parched river awaits a storm,
these city nights,
the blackened streets are tired and worn,
the wheels turn and the colors fade,
a volcanic eruption is running late,
crushing a diamond
turning our fate,

all dreams and all winters
with their stars above them,
all falls and leaves with their earth
below the stem,
the mysterious to clear,
A voice of harmony or decay
a jewel or a weed today.

I had a dream about you
under the red sky,
the phantom swim,
and the rivers ran wild
reaching for the last stray touch or limb,

The desert face,
a dry and waterless place,
you gave me a picture and I broke it,
leaf by leaf the faded colors fell,
lighting strikes, and
the clouds moved before the
darkening swell.
