An Ode To The Tax Man- A Poem revisited

in poem •  7 years ago  (edited)

The end of the tax year is creeping in for us self employed Brits!

Dear Mr Taxman

My old faithful friend

You have been here every year

Observing my mind bend

I'm here again in this pile of wood

Working my way through

I would get out if I could

But I haven't got a clue

I'm afraid I'm late again

My return I have failed to send

Into a world where I'm not sane

Into despair I do descend

Dear faithful client
Please do not fear
For I am a gentle giant
With support I am always here
Every year I patiently await
Your array of colourful accounts
So do not worry you are not late
You have 24 hours to organise your amounts

Thank you, that is a relief

Your sarcasm does makes me blush

Please...may I call you Keith?

I promise I will keep it hush

Oh madam I am deeply flattered
You are so very kind
My customer service has so mattered
But a good friend is hard to find
Oh...go on, you've twisted my arm
I will let you call me Keith
Now carry on and just stay calm
Finish this and feel the relief

Thank you dear Keith

My old faithful friend

You always give me some relief

Before I press that dreaded "SEND"

No Problem my friend
I am always here
Soon enough you will press send
I look forward to speaking next year

Based on a true story with slight exaggeration (as always) and his name wasn't Keith. Can't you tell my tax return is due!
