THE BENGAL CAT

A new and cuddly family friend,
We seek with hopes of time to spend,
Together now, both day and night,
One to fit our family right.
Not a cat who wants to fight.
Not a cat who will bite.
One to simply bring delight,
Now just to find one – we might.

A different breed we look to buy.
A friend for our Burmese guy.
We’ll teach our dog to get along.
Yes one big happy throng.
We find our cat, A Bengal boy,
The cutest little bundle of joy.
We visit his litter and pick him out,
With just a little doubt.
So hard to choose a single cat,
We pick him up – his ears went flat!
I’ve never seen a cat ear fold,
They all do that, we were told.
I came to learn this is when annoyed,
If at all possible this avoid.

We take him home,
When settled he’ll roam,
And get to know his house.
We buy him toys, a little mouse.
He loves to pounce and play,
A little hypo he tends to be, this can last all day.
He doesn’t seem to walk, just jog,
He’ll fetch the ball just like a dog,
He doesn’t like to cuddle – yet,
He loves to get all wet!
Water they are drawn to quick,
Up near the tap at the first click.
The water bowl his favourite hangout,
The water bowl he’ll empty out,
Digging at it with his paw,
Until there is no more.
He’s very smart at learning a new trick.
He picks things up very quick.
He’ll open your drawers and knock things down,
And acts like a little clown.
He waits in bed to bite your toes,
Then suddenly all crazy goes.

This is a very different breed,
He’s very fast, built for speed.
A lot of entertaining needs,
His energy ours exceeds.
He tries to boss us one and all,
A naughty crazy little ball.
This is just the start of it,
There’s more to learn, I’ll admit.
It seems he is a little strange,
In time we’ll see how he may change.
I only hope for a few more cuddles,
And maybe better floors for puddles!!
As this cat is water mad,
But otherwise we’re very glad.
