A Million (original poem by @sumatranate)

I have never seen a million faces.
I have never traveled to a million places.
I have never held a million dollars tightly in my hands.

But I have lived more than a million seconds.
I have gasped more than a million breaths in.
I have dreamed a million dreams, and I want to dream a million more.

For somethings, a million seems quite large,
And others it seems quite small.
But a million won't define my life, my dreams, my hopes, my call.

Good afternoon Nate,

I enjoyed the repetition here, I think it creates a natural place for the reader to have relative points where they can establish relationships from their experiences.

At the urging of your final stanza, and in observance to the establishing of my relational understanding of your words, I did some math:

  • 1,000,000 seconds = ~17 minutes

average breaths per minute = ~16 breaths

  • 1,000,000 breaths = ~1.4 months

average dreams per night = ~4

  • 1,000,000 dreams = ~685 years

all relative to human averages, which means lots of room for variation, but cool to see the scale and relate it to your message, that a million isn't a defining number, it's your passion that makes it real.

Appreciate the share, @sumatranate, this was a fun read.

Thanks for the comment. I appreciate you checking the math. I did so on the number of seconds and number of breaths but I did not think about counting dreams. I guess I was thinking of dreams in more a figurative sense (but good catch).

I agree that passion is what makes life real!

The top end of the average for dreams is 7 a night, a few deviations over and you could get to double digits which would be a very different story.

All in all, what I think it most communicates is that you are a dreamer (but not the only one).

I enjoyed the read, my friend, and look forward to reading more in the future - glad I happened by your blog!

I realy love your poem please keep it up

Now I must rethink my dream of making a million dollars. :-)

But seriously, that is such a nice poem about a million - never knew it could be looked at this way. Thanks for the meaningful lines.

@maxabit, maybe now you will want to dream of more than a million.

Thanks for the kinds words. I appreciate it!

This was a great poem - to emphasize millions in very different and opposite quantities in the first and second stanza. This way, it builds up to the final stanza - clever.

I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Wow, so deeply the meaning of that poem @sumatranate

I am glad that you enjoyed the poem. Thanks for the comment.

Yeah I really enjoy it, iya sama sama @sumatranate

I love this brother. Life is all about defining yourself the way you want to be defined. And, yes there are many different types of millions in our life and all that is important is the million important to you. :)

Or just like you said million does not have to mean anything or define anything about your life. :)

Love reading this poem brother. I truly did. Great job. :)

Thanks for the kind words. I hope you find your one million that motivates you. Keep Steeming!

You are more than welcome. Keep Steeming, my friend, as well. :)

Thanks for the kind words. I just had thoughts running thorugh my mind driving into work. When I arrived I typed as quickly as I could.

But a million won't define my life, my dreams, my hopes, my call.

A million is nothing if you compare it with dreams, which are infinite..

Agree. We need to let our dreams flow. Dream big friend!
