An African child

in poem •  7 years ago  (edited)

Good day steemians, today I will be sharing a post about an African child.

I am an African child.

They called me black,
But I can't be what I possessed.
Black is my color and not who iam.
Am The son, daughter of the soil.
Endowed in content and texture
My identity is my warm spirit, boldness and strength.
the strength not to fight but to work hard to better my life
Often the target of ridicule and pity
But my future is not confined to charity
Am bold, bright and brilliant.
I dream big. But still need an enabling environment to thrive.
My fault should not be hidden.
Show me my wrong.
Am like any other;
Teach me how to dream,
And I will become.
I can do anything I set my mind upon,
Therefore, teach me how to hold on.
Teach me character,
Teach me to think like the star within,
Love me for who I am,
Give me the freedom to be me,
And I will change the world.
I am gifted,
I am an African child.
