looking back

looking back
I see how immature we were

we had that in common

the surprise divorce
after 19 years

knocked some of that
out of me

but
I’ll always be a fool
and one of my useful defenses
is that I’ve never accepted
what the adults
handed us
as
true
and
I’ve
always
searched for
something better
something I found
by luck as much
as anything
else

by
luck
and by love
