CHANT FOR AFRICA

I am arrayed with shackles,
Transported in sullen sea vessels
As my barrels of oil and spice.
I am exiled from my home,
Cursed to an unknown soil to toil
For the White Mouths.
I feed on the hope of seeing
My family in sleep, and by this
My scrawny an crumbled bones
Are strengthened. I squeal in agony
Yet none hears for I am strong
And I don't scream.
I am Africa; one unbreakable bone.
I am one heart that will never
Break when all contrast of black
Have been eroded.
I am black, the colour of strength.
