The softest things that touch our hearts,
Babies, puppies, works of art:
Have an innocence intact,
Felt in tandem with our eyes.
Venus rays these bulbs absorb,
Lulling us into Jasmin beds,
Where pillows fluff in luxury;
Or send to us a stolen smile,
When thinking on our loveliest ones,
Whom steal our hearts at half a mile.
Oh we! The dupes of the calm before the storm,
Cherish the days of baby fat–
You will never get them back.
