Spiritual Assault

"You're just mad because I don't want you anymore."

She'd said it so venomously.

I was struck with a flashback of her in the costume she'd worn just that past Halloween. The symbolism of it hit me
as we stood at a distance of probably not more than 3 feet from one another.
I realized then,
how weak I'd been
for my children's mother...

The devil in the red dress.

The image of that
gorgeous sequined garment
that painted this woman...
Now tainted the garden that I seeded in.

The tail with the point on the end, complete with the crown that I found adorning her—
The horns on her head.

I was hurt that she no longer wanted me. I was mad at myself for only then seeing that she undoubtedly never did.

"I told you before.
You aren't my last choice."
I said.
"You were my first."
