The Raven (A Science Fiction Tale)

in poetry •  7 years ago

O God, I'm sure, by now...You have heard my prayer
Still I'm drifting on through space, no word, no weight, no air
Relentlessly pursued by that black bird...Nevermore
Obsidian gleaming fusion drive, thrust towards a distant shore

If not for inertia, Oh, would I not slow down?
Then caught up in that sable beak, the one of great renown
Perhaps then torn asunder and cast down motionless
Wrapped up in her wings so vast in ignorance and bliss.

Then could not thy bidding Master do, rather, not even care
Transfixed by the eclipse I witness within her raven stare
And yet momentum tends to keep my broken soul in motion
Travelling at the speed of light, upon this star lit ocean

Keep us then in parallel, more so, let us not lose flight
Speed us on...evermore, throughout the deepened night
On through time, millennium, last glance, rear view, past tense
Incoming transmission: Flecker's greeting, a thousand years thence
