A Poem: Stranger Listening to Nothing

in poetry •  6 years ago  (edited)

The twirling toiling teasing in my mind
won’t stop, as the rest of me freezes I wonder,
what for - Nothing around me is changing
My breathing is shallow and calm, to my surprise,
and my relief, you are still here.
There is nothing I can say, and no sound I can make
Void of all thought, I wait for an escape
You reach out to me, as no one else has
Unexpected uninvited understanding.
Your consideration is louder than my silence
Your determination is longer than the awkward pause
As your assurances catch me off guard I wonder,
How can a stranger listening to nothing
hear everything.
