The Value Of MySelf

I don't want to be irrelevant
But I refuse to fit in
I am trying to be mySelf
But people get suspicious
When you stand out from the crowd
And proclaim your power
Your uniqueness
Your originality
People get scared
And run from that
From the mirror of who they could be
They try to make you feel bad
Guilty
Try to get you to crawl back into your place
The tiny little box of insignificance
And powerlessness
So they can feel better about being there
Less claustrophobic and shameful
When others share your disgrace
And it is a disgrace to dim your brilliance
A shame not to let your light fully shine
No matter what anyone else thinks
Says or does
Don't allow the opinions of others
The voices of others
The expectations of others
To sway the course of your life
And who you want to be

Great poem thanks

Was really feeling these sentiments of late and it finally came out in a poem. Thank you for your kind words. It is always my pleasure to share with others.

Beautiful thoughts and words!

Thank you. It is so wonderful when others resonate with your deepest thoughts and feelings, though I never expect it anymore.

And it is a disgrace to dim your brilliance
A shame not to let your light fully shine

PREACH!!!

Be careful what you ask for. I can preach with the best of them. I will get on my soapbox and fire away, haha.

You speak truly. Let us allow our lights to shine bright!!!

Yes, @d-pend, we are all brilliant lights that deserve to shine. Dimming ourselves means everyone loses out. Thanks for stopping by!

Exactly! :D
