Freedom?

in poetry •  6 years ago

Tears of joy, it’s a girl child
Laughing heartily choosing her future
Will she be married off to an ordinary man? No a wealthy merachant
No one knows
This little baby has a dream !

Living so wild, having a great dream
The wildest any human could ever think of
Sure of herself, happy for her dream
As wild as it is , she is in love with it
A female child is leashed !

Now a teen, dreaming more
Glad to be born to achieve such height
Imagining things is her pleasure
Anticipating on how to tell mama
A wild heart has a dream!

You are a girl
And girls do not dream
Papa and mama fix their lives
We know what’s best
And we choose for you

Tears welding up in her eyes are that of sadness
The dream of fourteen years has crumbled
Just after four minutes of discussion
Begging for freedom all in vain
Born with hinges now in chain

Even in the twenty first century
A dream is a disaster
In the next fiftieth century, it will be unchanged
Now she knows, never to dream
An African female child is never free!
