Firstly what is poverty???
Poverty is defined as the scarcity or the lack of a certain amount of material possessions or money. Poverty is a multifaceted concept, which may include social, economic, and political elements..

Now In Nigeria we have one of the world's highest economic growth rates, averaging 7.4% according to the our economic report released in July 2014 by the World Bank. Poverty still remains significant at 33.1% in Africa's biggest economy. For our country that has massive wealth and a huge population to support commerce, a well-developed economy, and plenty of natural resources such as oil,[1] the level of poverty remains unacceptable.[2] However, poverty may have been overestimated due to the lack of information on the extremely huge informal sector of the economy,[3][4] estimated at around 60% more, of the current GDP figures.[5]

Poverty in Nigeria can also be caused by the political instability of the country. However, these programs have largely failed to overcome the three reasons for this persistent poverty: income inequality, ethnic conflict, and political instability....

Solutions to poverty in Nigeria
I think we can have solutions to this poverty we're striving on for this long if we can follow this steps..
Having access to Education

Having access to education is a way of escaping poverty. How is this possible? When you are educated you get particular skills and potential power for earning money.

Education also influences how you think and behave. It enables you to:

get a skill with which you can serve people
serve a purpose by solving problems in a particular line of work
serve more people so that you will earn more money
improve your ability by experience at work
develop your skill and get extra qualification to advance your career
plan your life, have a vision, pursue and achieve it.
plan your family and have the number of children you can train
get a good job to improve your standard of living
From these points you can see how education potentially wipes out poverty.

Cultural reorientation

China has a national culture of saving. The Chinese save as much as 30% of their earnings and are known for their frugality. Nigerians can learn this.

A culture that adores consumption without production that prefers spending to saving and investing cannot grow rich. Such a culture cannot accumulate enough wealth that can be diverted to innovation, international trade, business and job creation.

Family Planning

Children are a gift from God but are a boon only for a country whose national wealth is increasing. For a nation whose national wealth is stagnant or declining, these children and their mothers face immense suffering.

Poverty does not prevent births but is unfavorable to the rearing of children

Is it not ironic that rich nations like Japan and the Scandinavian countries have low birth rates while poor nations like Nigeria have high birth rates?

Many rich nations are concerned about their low rates of generation and worry about their future. Should Nigeria not be more concerned as to how to it will create enough wealth for its burgeoning population? At its current birth rate, Nigeria’s population will double in 30 years. At the present time we can hardly get by as a nation and at our current rate of development can we in 30 years be creating enough wealth and a more organized society that will be able to sustain twice the current population?

While a poor Nigerian woman may have a s many as seven children or more, many rich women have one or two kids. This may suggest higher rates of barrenness in the upper class but in truth this is not so.

I believe with all these we can still reduce the numbers of poverty living soul in our country..
