Lady in White

in poetry •  7 years ago

White.
Purity right?
Certainly she is the most heavenly thing you'll see, I am sure.
She has a subtle skip to her step,
A certain flare to her motion,
And a glassy look to her eyes.

She turns every head;
Stops every conversation;
All eyes on her.

Certainly this 'thing', must be something otherworldly?

Men lay at the tips of her feet;
Behind the point of her ear;
Like dogs begging to bone.

Surely she must be an angel, a saint, or the bride!
No.
She is none of these things.

She is a contradiction.
Such a Contradiction.
One not so easily defined.

She is not named by what you can comprehend.
She is not 'purity' or an angel.
She is not the bride.

She is a woman.
One you cannot own.

She wears white, because she can.
Not because she should.
At least, not by your standards.
