"Another Night of Dreamless Sleep" - More Old Poetry

I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)

One gun, one bullet
One trigger, why pull it?
Two clicks of the hammer
Three second-guesses made
After lights turned low
You pulled down the shade
You sit on your bed
Sheets dirty and unkempt
From the last time
You choked on insomnia
Reaching out into dreams
Trying to pull yourself up
Hand over fist into sanity.

The barrel tastes dirty, iron on lips,
Like the last owner’s thoughts
On the last bullet tip.
Tonguing the chamber,
And flirting with death

Outside the window
Flashes neon temptation
Screaming "Live Nude Girls"
As the bloody sensation
Of bullet through skin leaves
Smoky suicide curls.
