Solitude and Memories

Hummingbirds.jpg

Mother, I saw your face in the freckles
of my bedroom wall. Moonbeams
don't warm me but this silence does.

I remember your eyes broken honey
combs, and tu miel dripping out
of pupils when you missed
my father.

I sent you a letter
two months after
my miscarriage.

I wrote mother, the day you die
I will be a bastard to this world.
Who will love me
when you're gone?

Mother, I am so lonely. I think
hummingbirds hate me
& butterflies just drop by
out of pity.

But the crickets they laugh
with their song every time
I miss you.
